Shopping: Dovercourt has a wide range of shops, a lively market on Friday mornings and a post office within a five-minute walk of New Hall Lodge Park. Harwich Town Centre is just a fifteen minutes walk away and offers a good selection of shops. Local Attractions: Particular features of Dovercourt are the iron lighthouses or 'Leading Lights' which sit along the Award winning Blue Flag beach. Along the seafront there is a putting green, croquet lawn, crazy golf and a boating lake. The Redoubt is a formidable fortification, built in 1808 to protect the Harbour against the French, and affords a superb panoramic view across the whole peninsular. The Ha'penny Pier Visitor Centre is housed in a Victorian pier ticket office, and is now incorporating a Mayflower exhibition.
The Essex coastal towns of Clacton-on-Sea, Walton-on-the-Naze and Frinton-on-Sea are just a short trip along the coast. Colchester is just twenty minutes drive away and has tenpin bowling, quaint shopping areas and an award winning zoo.
